Convergence is the single event that brings together professionals in information technology, academic libraries, online learning, and instructional design from all the public and private colleges and universities in Kentucky and the surrounding states. Sponsored by Kentucky post-secondary institutions and private sector partners, Kentucky Convergence is a conference that emphasizes innovations and best practices in the fastest-growing areas of higher education.

The Kentucky Convergence Conference is managed and led by Kentucky higher education professionals. The conference steering committee is made up of representatives from Kentucky’s public and private universities and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Call for Proposals is Open!

Have a great idea, tool, or information to share with your peers? We know you do! Go to KYCC 2023 Call for Proposals and let us know your idea. The deadline is May 31, 2023.

This year we are offering three types of sessions:
  • Breakout session. The breakout sessions are 45 minutes long and should include some audience interaction and engagement.
  • Lightning talks. A lightning talk is a short presentation, no more than 10 minutes, that aims to provide a quick and engaging introduction to a topic. Speakers are not expected to provide a comprehensive overview of their topic, but to spark interest and provide a starting point for the audience to explore further on their own. No audience participation is expected, but resources for participants to find out more should be provided.
  • Birds of a Feather. Birds of a Feather is a guided round table discussion on a focused topic. Proposals for Birds of a Feather should include a topic and some discussion prompts.

Vice Provost for Online Strategy and Teaching Innovation at the University of Louisville
A popular speaker and facilitator, Dr. Kelvin Thompson regularly addresses groups throughout the US on topics related to online/blended learning and educational technology while he serves as the Vice Provost for Online Strategy and Teaching Innovation at the University of Louisville (UofL) with a faculty appointment in UofL’s College of Education & Human Development. Dr. Thompson has collaborated on the design of hundreds of online and blended courses over the past 25 years and is active in the online education community. Kelvin developed the BlendKit Course open courseware (http://bit.ly/blendkit) as part of the Blended Learning Toolkit, and he also co-hosts TOPcast: The Teaching Online Podcast available on iTunes and at http://topcast.online.ucf.edu. Thompson is engaged with the higher education professional development community, has held leadership roles within the work of EDUCAUSE, the Online Learning Consortium, and WCET, and he is a co-editor of the forthcoming SAGE Handbook of Online Higher Education. His personal research interests center around how interaction affects learner engagement, and information on his Online Course Criticism qualitative evaluation model for facilitating the scholarship of teaching and learning in online and blended environments is available online (http://onlinecoursecriticism.com). Thompson is a graduate of the “Breakthrough Models Academy” (2014), and in 2020 he was selected as a Fellow of the Online Learning Consortium. Kelvin Thompson holds an EdD in curriculum and instruction and an MA in instructional systems technology from the University of Central Florida and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from The Florida State University.
